Fashion History Walking Tours

Coco Chanel and the Place Vendome

One of the enduring names of fashion is Coco Chanel. A name synonymous with luxury and class, the Place Vendome was not only her home while she lived at the Ritz hotel, but also the inspiration for the bottle of her fragrance, No. 5.

Gabrielle Chanel was a trailblazer in fashion, designing clothes for women worn without a corset and creating early sportswear, providing women with an ease of dressing unknown during the Belle Epoque. Her actual apartment was on Rue Cambon, just around the corner from the Place Vendome, and where she had her atelier. It is now one of Chanel's main headquarters and still houses her haute couture ateliers.

We’ll visit the Rue de la Paix, where haute couture was born, and the Rue Cambon to learn about Chanel and discover the long history of the Place Vendôme, along with some of its secrets.
